Liu Guangwei Attended the Improving Resource Efficiency and Reducing Food Loss and Waste Conference, Introducing the 7 Types of Human Food Waste

On Nov.26, 2019, co-hosted by the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing and the World Resources Institute, the Improving Resource Efficiency and Reducing Food Loss and Waste Conference was held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. Liu Guangwei, founder of eatology, director-general of World Eatology Forum, attended the conference and delivered a speech whose topic is Global Integral Governance of Food Waste.

Food waste in different countries

Liu stressed that food waste is among the 9 eatage issues facing by human beings and he summarized the 4 major characteristics of current food waste worldwide. He introduced that food waste can be categorized into 7 major types by means of food production and utilization. He said reducing food waste is an important part of SDGs and advocated to solve it from 5 aspects of administrative regulation, legal punishment, moral constraints, eation education and economic regulation. He also advocated that a right dietary method is an crucial way to reduce food waste and recommended the Dietary Guideline for Global Citizens.

Danish Minister for Environment Lea Wermelin, deputy chief economist of Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center in the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Chen Ming, vice president of World Resource Institute Craig Hanson delivered the welcome speech. Relative Officials, NGO representatives, business representatives and some well-known experts from the FAO, UNEP, World Bank, Danish Committee on Agriculture and Food, China Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Danfoss China, etc. also participated in the conference.
