The United Nations Acknowledges the Initiative of the “Construction of a SEB Food Order Platform”

Dec 17, 2019

On December 17, 2019, in Conference Room 9, United Nations Headquarters, New York City, an expert group meeting (EGM) launched by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) was taking place. The EGM, attended by over 30 digital experts across the globe, was organized to address the question of how to address emerging requirements and challenges for policy and decision-making in digital transformation in developing countries.

Liu Guangwei, founder of Eatology and director-general of the World Eatology Forum, delivered a speech, in which he presented and advocated an initiative “Construction of a SEB Food Order Platform”, at the meeting. The initiative is based on the core ideas of Eatology, of his origin, and conceptualized and authored by him as an overarching solution to the world’s present-day food issues, received great acclaim. As a follow-up to this meeting, another meeting, co-hosted by the Division for Public Institutions and the Digital Government (DPIDG) and the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG), both under the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), was held to discuss about the SEB Food Order Platform on December 23.

The SEB Initiative is being discussed at the follow-up meeting on December 23.

In the speech delivered on December 17, Liu Guangwei shed light on the sheer fact that 12 out of the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as part of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development the United Nations had adopted were related to food issues. As the architect of Eatology, he had classified all the food issues the world was confronting into nine major types and framed a global governance system to address them accordingly in a coherent manner. The system was meant as his answer to the delivery of the UN’s 2030 agenda for sustainable development.

In the title of the initiative “Construction of a SEB Food Order Platform”, “S” is short for SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), “E” short for Eatology, “B” short for blockchain. The SEB Food Order Platform will be designed to be an integrated technological platform taking advantage of Empower Cloud, servers, PCs, mobile devices, and apps to effectively solve a series of food issues, where, as an ultimate object, consumers will be enabled to purchase safe foods and producers will be motivated to produce quality foods.

UN Under-Secretary-General Liu Zhenmin (3rd from left) meets with Liu Guangwei (2nd from left) and other digital experts attending the EGM.

The initiative was highly acknowledged by some UN officials with the comments to the effect that food issues were crucial and prerequisite to sustainable development and therefore SDGs would not be realized without the resolution of food issues. They also viewed the SEB platform as an inspiring innovation blending sustainability, Eatology, and blockchain, which was in line with the digital cooperation trends and worth further exploration.

The pamphlets are handed out for Liu Guangwei’s speech. These are part of the pamphlet content.
